Most leaders focus on two business fundamentals, product and market, but they often undervalue the third key to success. Building a quality product or service is essential. Delivering this unique value to your customers is critical. But, offering great value to your customers cannot be sustained without the third key: a great culture.
Culture happens. Every company has its own unique culture regardless of how intentionally the leaders build the culture. Culture is built through every interaction – it evolves toward health or dis-ease.
Culture matters. Dis-ease is not easy. Healthy systems thrive. Disjointed, disconnected, diseased companies crumble, or at minimum, they significantly underachieve their potential.
Culture can be built. Leaders must pay attention to how work gets done. They must pay attention to their Culture in Action. Do your people reinforce the best of the culture or do they undermine the company’s potential?
Build culture as work gets done. Don’t make it a side job. Culture is just as important as your product/service value and as your customers. If a customer has an issue, you fix it immediately, if your product quality slips, you fix it immediately. Do the same with culture. For example, if you witness an interaction that erodes your culture, fix it immediately.
Focus on all three keys: Market, Value and Culture, to grow your successful business.
